Edinburgh-based circus performer Sadiq Ali shares his highly emotive, personal story as he brings his autobiographical work 鈥楾he Chosen Haram鈥� to the Fringe for the first time.
Growing up as a queer Muslim boy in Edinburgh, Sadiq Ali led a double life, between attending the Mosque for school to finding the circus where he could live authentically. His life was split in two. A diagnosis of HIV in 2014 proved to be a turning point, Ali knew that he could use the circus discipline to challenge perceptions of being HIV positive and make sense of his own story. These experiences have since inspired his Fringe debut 鈥楾he Chosen Haram鈥�, a love story told through the medium of Chinese Pole and physical theatre. Sadiq is now living his lifelong dream of performing his physically dynamic and emotionally charged work as part of the festival.
