Refugees are being 鈥榳eaponised鈥� in the UK
Refugees to the UK are being 鈥渨eaponised鈥� by the government, a refugee from Afghanistan who arrived to Britain illegally as a teenager and now works as a doctor in the NHS has told 麻豆官网首页入口 News.
鈥淭hey are politicised鈥� they are criminalised,鈥� Dr Waheed Arian told the 麻豆官网首页入口鈥檚 Hardtalk programme.
Asked by Stephen Sackur about the UK government鈥檚 current immigration policies which could have prevented his own successful asylum claim, Dr Arian said: 鈥淲e don鈥檛 have to go through division, through hatred.鈥�
Instead of being deported, he suggested refugees' skills could be utilised. 鈥淲e have shortages of staff, people who can work in healthcare, in education, in other sectors.
鈥淥n the other hand we are trying to send people away,鈥� he said.
More than 45,000 people made the Channel crossing in 2022 according to the UK government and five people died.
