The PM's allies have defended his decision to wait until now. But opposition parties say it should have been done sooner; Labour has accused the Tories of being "mired in sleaze".
Rishi Sunak has fired Nadhim Zahawi as Conservative Party Chairman after an investigation by the prime minister's ethics adviser concluded he had failed to be open about his tax arrangements. The prime minister's allies have defended his decision to wait until now to sack Mr Zahawi. Opposition parties say it should have been done sooner - with Labour accusing the Tories of being "mired in sleaze". In his letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Zahawi did not apologise or explicitly mention the findings of the ethics inquiry into his tax affairs, and suggested that he planned to stay on as an MP 鈥渋n the coming years鈥�, despite calls to step down.
