"Ambulance waits are putting my children's lives at risk"
Disability reporter Ruth Clegg speaks to the family of disabled twins Emily and Christopher, as they navigate ambulance waits and an emergency care system in crisis.
12 year old twins Emily and Christopher have brain damage and a number of complex conditions. They rely on a vast array of machinery, such as ventilators, suction equipment and oxygen tanks, to stay alive. Christopher has a tracheotomy and Emily needs constant supervision because of severe choking issues.
Their father Paul and mother, Claire, have been medically trained to look after the twins at home but their expertise goes only so far. Sometimes they need emergency care.
Just before Christmas, Christopher's life was put at risk when his parents were told there could be a three-hour wait for an ambulance.
