Supermarkets across the UK have begun limiting the sales of certain fruit and vegetables - because of a shortage of fresh produce. A poor harvest in Europe means Tesco, Aldi, Asda and Morrisons are now restricting customers to the quantity they can buy - including produce such as peppers, lettuce and broccoli. Pictures of empty shelves at various supermarkets have been circulating on social media. The shortages are largely the result of extreme weather in Spain and north Africa which have affected harvests. The British Retail Consortium, which represents supermarkets, says the shortages are expected to last "a few weeks" until the UK growing season gets under way and shops find alternative sources of produce.
