Queen's anointing was 'too sacred' to televise

Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in June 1953 and the event was televised by the 麻豆官网首页入口. For the first time in history, people could watch the event in their homes as it was happening.

The late Peter Dimmock, the 麻豆官网首页入口鈥檚 former head of outside broadcasts, looks back on the challenges the corporation faced in bringing it to air including persuading a reluctant government to let them film inside Westminster Abbey.

Former maid of honour Lady Jane Rayne Lacey also shares her memories of the day including the part that felt 鈥渢oo sacred鈥 to televise.
