Baaba Maal: 鈥淲e need to raise our voices鈥�
Renowned Senegalese musician Baaba Maal said that world leaders - whether they are political, religious or otherwise 鈥� should 鈥渓isten more to young people, because they are the future and they are the ones who know what kind of future they want鈥�. 鈥淎nd they have instruments like the internet to say what they want to say,鈥� he added.
In May 2022, it Senegalese President Macky Sall stated that his country intended to regulate social media, describing social media abuse as 鈥渁 real cancer of modern societies鈥�.
Speaking to HARDtalk鈥檚 Stephen Sackur, Maal said that people in Africa need to raise their voices and that 鈥済etting people connected is a very good thing for Africa and for the rest of the world鈥�.
He also added that governments around the world, especially in Africa are 鈥渁 little bit afraid to be told what to do and what not to do. But that has to change.鈥�
