Tavistock: Top doctor questions need for change at gender clinic
Newsnight's investigation into GIDS, the Gender and Identity Development Service at the Tavistock Clinic, was instrumental in triggering an Independent Review of its services and methods, which will ultimately lead to the creation of several new services for children with gender dysphoria, underpinned by a different model of care.
But now a doctor with a key role in implementing that reform has been heard questioning the need for change during a keynote speech, a recording of which has been passed to the programme.Â
Professor Gary Butler, the clinical lead for the children's gender clinic in England and Wales also appeared to accuse the author of the Report, Dr Hilary Cass, of nepotism. And the former Health Secretary Sajid Javid has responded to Newsnight's latest investigation, saying that individuals who are not wholly committed to reform should not be involved in the set up of those new services.
Hannah Barnes reports.
