The Secretary General of Amnesty International Agn猫s Callamard has told HARDtalk鈥檚 Stephen Sackur that human rights work is becoming 鈥渕ore deadly鈥�.
鈥淭his is a crisis of global leadership, this is a crisis in vision, this is a crisis in our common humanity.鈥�
鈥淭here is an increase in authoritarian practices around the world. We see that reflected in the fact that human rights work is becoming increasingly lethal, deadly.
鈥淏ut it does not mean that human rights work is irrelevant, quite the contrary. It means that governments, politicians, have understood that human rights is an obstacle for their mis-use, abuse of power and they are prepared to do everything to prevent it.鈥�
