Line of Duty star Lennie James on how he hid his upbringing in a children's home
The Line of Duty star Lennie James has revealed how he was initially frightened to tell people about his childhood spent growing up in the care system from age 15.
"I didn't want anybody to feel sorry for me, I didn't want anybody to make assumptions", he said.
Lennie went on to recall a story from drama school, when his upbringing in the care system was revealed. It was contained in the biography section of an anthology of plays, which included his first published script.
"I ran up to the library and there were three copies of the anthology and in the back was this biography talking about my mum and talking about losing her and talking about growing up in the kid's home.
"I ripped that page out of all three books", he said.
Lennie is now an ambassador for Barnardo's.
