Eliza McCartney: Olympic dreams a leap of faith after years of injury

The New Zealand pole vaulter Eliza McCartney on her hopes for an Olympic comeback

New Zealand pole vaulter Eliza McCartney is about to take a leap of faith ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Since winning bronze at the 2016 Games in Rio, the 27-year-old has suffered many years of injury frustration. However 2024 brought silver at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow - her first international podium finish in six years, since taking Commonwealth silver on the Gold Coast.

The New Zealander told Sportshour's Caroline Barker about her hopes for an Olympic comeback and about her work on climate change. Eliza is an advocate on the environment and is part of the EcoAthletes collective, a non-profit that inspires and coaches athletes to lead climate action.
