Residents’ fury at Bromsgrove tree felling notice
People in the Worcestershire town are urging Councillors to scrap plans to chop down the 150-year-old tree. The poplar tree was due to be removed near the A38, located on the Stratford Road.
The proposals are part of the Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme, with Worcestershire County Council saying it wants to support Bromsgrove's economy by tackling delays on the A38 corridor, from Lydiate Ash to the Hanbury Turn.
The local authority claims it's improving junctions, as well as cycling and walking routes; they've already cut down more than 270 trees in the process.
Our reporter Matt Hutchinson met campaigners battling to save the historic tree from being axed.
In a statement, Worcestershire County Council says it will now carry out a public consultation before making a final decision.
