Jassa Ahluwalia: ‘We need to change people’s mindsets about what mixed race looks like’
British actor, writer and filmmaker Jassa Ahluwalia described himself for over 25 years as ‘half Indian’, ‘half English’. However, feeling caught between two worlds, Jassa has embarked on a call to action saying that we need to change how we think and talk about mixed identity with his new book.
Speaking to 5 Live’s Nihal Arthanayake, he said: “I’ve been part of the change to change the casting database system in the UK, Spotlight.â€
“There used to be just one category for mixed race. I worked with Spotlight to change the whole system, now there is system that allow for true multiplicity.
“At least the tools are now there to allow for mixed performers to be properly seen.â€
