Hereford mum's plea to enshrine 'duty of care'
Gaynor Holland says her daughter, Charlotte, might not have died if emergency services were called sooner by the person Charlotte was with.
Charlotte Holland, who was 20-years-old when she died, was diagnosed at an address on Green Street on 17th July 2022, with unexplained injuries.
Gaynor has started a petition calling for a change in the law so that all individuals have a duty of care if they come across a person in a life-threatening situation.
West Mercia Police have told us, in relation to Charlotte鈥檚 case, that "an investigation was carried out and no further police action is going to be taken."
They add that her death has now been passed over to the coroner.鈥
Currently, there is no general duty to come to the aid of another in common law legal systems.
Generally, a person cannot be held liable for doing nothing while another person is in peril.
And this is what Gaynor wants to change.
