Much has been made of Rishi Sunak's claim during the televised leader's debate that Labour would increase taxes by £2000.

Paul Johnson, the director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, spoke to 5 Live Drive about how the focus on the figure has frustrated him.

"We know we're going to get tax rises, because they've told us they're going to get tax rises," Paul explained.

"Jeremy Hunt has said we are going to get £11bn a year of tax rises in the next parliament because he is freezing income tax allowances on thresholds and national insurance allowances thresholds."

Johnson says Labour have also signed up to this policy.

"Yet they're talking about these spurious numbers of £2000 per person, over per household over four years" he told Chris Warburton.

"It makes me really frustrated at the state of this debate."
