Bacteria forces County Hall in Worcester to close

Hear why the picturesque building was closed on Friday 21st June 2024. Staff received an email detailing a positive test for the bacteria which causes Legionnaires' disease.

Matt Hutchinson reports from a quieter than normal County Hall on Spetchley Road.

You can get Legionnaires' disease if you breathe in tiny droplets of water containing bacteria that cause the infection.

It's usually caught in places like hotels, hospitals or offices where the bacteria have got into the water supply. It's less common to catch it at home.

Paul Robinson, Chief Executive of Worcestershire County Council said: 鈥淐ounty Hall Offices which includes the Lakeview Caf茅 are closed today after sampling has returned a detection of legionella in parts of the water system. As a precautionary measure, I have instructed staff to work from home or from an alternative venue, while further investigations take place."
