County councillor named in election betting investigation
Get the latest as a councillor is reportedly being investigated by the gambling regulator into allegations that bets were placed on the general election taking place on 4th July.
It's been confirmed that four Conservatives are being investigated, including two election candidates. It's now understood that other people with links to the Conservative Party, or the government, are being looked into by the Commission.
The party's chief data officer, Nick Mason, a Herefordshire County Councillor, allegedly places dozens of bets, which the Sunday Times newspaper says could have generated winnings of thousands of pounds.
A spokesman for Mr Mason told the 麻豆官网首页入口 that it would not be appropriate to comment during an investigation but he denied wrongdoing. He's now taken a leave of absence from his Tory party role.
The Gambling Commission, we understand, asked betting companies to share details of anyone who had bet 拢20 or more on a July election.
