'I'm not a scammer, but people think I am'
A Leominster pensioner's number is being used by criminals to defraud people, and gets confused calls every week, asking 'why are you trying to scam me?'
The Herefordshire pensioner is in his 80s and started getting the calls last September. Since then he's had to fend off 200 calls, from people wanting to know why his number called them.
Tom Edwards reports.
Experts have dubbed this particular scam as 'phone number spoofing' - which is becoming more common among fraudsters.
It's where a legitimate phone number is effectively stolen by fraudsters, and used as a 'mask' to call people, in the hope they might answer the call because it appears to be a genuine number.
