Is Gareth Southgate England鈥檚 greatest ever manager?

Gareth Southgate has resigned as England manager after eight years in charge following the defeat to Spain in the 2024 European Championship final.

Southgate, who took over as the men鈥檚 national team manager in 2016, guided England to back-to-back Euros finals, and also to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and quarter-finals in 2022.

In a statement announcing his decision, Southgate said: "It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all. But it's time for change, and for a new chapter."

Former FA Chief Executive Mark Palios says Southgate should be recognised as the 鈥渂est鈥 manager England have had as he also explains the FA鈥檚 process of appointing a replacement and how it鈥檚 a more difficult job than club football.
