The historic part of Worcester has been at the hub of the city for 180 years, at the heart of the marine trade many years ago.

The Canal & River Trust is looking for memories of the locks and the island for an oral history project, as explained to our reporter Kalpana Boodhoo, and 91-year-old John Weston, who lived and worked in Diglis in the '40s and '50s.

The Severn Navigation Act of 1842 led to the opening of Lincomb Weir in 1843, with the Lock opened on 9th October 142, with estimated costs of £140,000 (in today's money, around £22million).
