Over 80% of Halloween costumes for young children don鈥檛 meet safety standards

Adrian Simpson, Head of Policy at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents says he is 鈥渞eally shocked鈥 at how unsafe some kids鈥 Halloween costumes are.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards carried out tests on 128 costumes for under-7s purchased from various online marketplaces.

Twenty-eight of the costumes did not meet flammability standards and 59 were found to have dangerous cords or drawstrings that posed a strangulation risk. Many costumes also lacked appropriate labelling, with 98 out of 128 failing to provide essential safety information.

Adrian urged parents to check the labels for any warnings in order to ensure their children鈥檚 safety at Halloween.
