"The centre of the world": Exploring the deep history of The Strand
The Strand has witnessed to London’s growth and change from early on.
Is there a London street more iconic than The Strand. It has inspired great songs, is home to one of the grand London hotels and was a hotspot for theatre and music hall during the 19th century. By 1910, the street was known as the ‘centre of the world’.
Now, the Strand has its own biography, written by historian Eileen Chanin and archivist Geoff Browell. Gary Kemp has been speaking to them for Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio London.
