Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, Cheryl rose to fame in 2002 while competing on ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals, where she landed a spot in what was soon-to-be one of the UK’s most successful girl bands, Girls Aloud.
Brit Award-winning Girls Aloud were together from 2002 until 2009, scoring five platinum and double platinum selling albums, and four UK single number ones such as Sound of The Underground, I’ll Stand By You and The Promise.
Since 2009, Cheryl has built a successful solo career with hits such as ‘Crazy Stupid Love’, ‘Fight for This Love’ and ‘Call My Name’ which has helped her become a staple in the UK pop industry.
Cheryl started dancing from a very early age and went on to join the Royal Ballet’s summer school at the age of nine.
As part of the show; The Passions of Girls Aloud, Cheryl shared her aspiration of being a street dancer. She went to LA where she was taught the art of krumping by its inventor Tommy The Clown. These classes led Cheryl to her first ever solo performance, dancing in will.i.am’s Heartbreaker music video and thus forming their famous friendship.
Keen to nurture new talent, Cheryl was a judge on ITV's talent search, The X Factor between 2008 and 2011 – mentoring both Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry to victory.
Passionate about charity work, in 2017 the performer set up Cheryl’s Trust, in partnership with The Prince’s Trust, to help young people realise their potential and get their lives back on track.
