Raised in an affluent neighbourhood, Chance interned for Barack Obama鈥檚 during his first presidential campaign before turning his attention to music full-time.
His 2012 mixtape, 10 Day, was recorded during a two-week suspension from high school, but gained recognition within the local scene. Its psychedelic, jazzy follow-up, Acid Rap, brought him to mainstream attention.聽
Named 2013鈥檚 鈥淗ot MC鈥� by Rolling Stone magazine, he鈥檚 toured with Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, while Mercury prize-winner James Blake enlisted him for a remix of his song Life Round Here.
Chance says his more outlandish musical moments are inspired by experiments with drugs 鈥� leading to stern disapproval from his parents.聽
But it doesn鈥檛 seem to have put off his fans 鈥� with the rapper fielding calls from calls from the likes of Mark Ronson, Diplo, and Q-Tip. Not to mention the dozens of record label executives said to be fighting a bidding war for his signature.聽
