She first came to attention in late 2012 with No Strings, a furiously sweary pop belter about a feckless boyfriend. "You don't even know if I'm the right sex, do you?" she taunted.
Her Rumour EP followed this year, with similarly sassy observations on being a modern British teenager 鈥 many inspired by her traumatic school years, which she describes as 鈥渓ike being in prison鈥.
The Maidenhead singer was signed only weeks after finishing her exams and has since spent time in the studio with hitmakers such as Eg White (Adele, Duffy) and Richard X (Sugababes, Pet Shop Boys).
Her early interviews display a pleasing disregard for conventional media-trained pop star tropes.
鈥淚 hate it when Rihanna does the whole 'I don't want to be a role model 鈥 I never signed up for that' thing,鈥 she told The Guardian.
"I'm like 鈥 yes you did, stop rolling weed on someone's head. Your fans are all 14!"
Following the success of her Rumour EP, she鈥檚 been invited to support the likes of John Newman, Bastille and Alex Clare. She鈥檚 also picked up plaudits from the likes of Huw Stephens, Zane Lowe and Annie Mac.
