Made up of over 120 singers, 麻豆官网首页入口 National Chorus of Wales is one of the leading mixed symphony choruses in the UK and, whilst preserving its amateur status, works to the highest professional standards under Artistic Director, Adrian Partington. Comprising a mix of amateur singers alongside students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Cardiff University the Chorus, based at 麻豆官网首页入口 Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff Bay, works regularly alongside 麻豆官网首页入口 National Orchestra of Wales, as well as performing concerts in its own right.

Recent highlights include performances of Poulenc’s Stabat Mater and the world premiere of Alexander Campkin’s Sound of Stardust alongside 麻豆官网首页入口 Cardiff Singer of the World Audience Prize winner Julieth Lozano Rolong and choral conducting sensation Sofi Jeannin, Shostakovich’s gritty 13th Symphony under the baton of Principal Conductor Ryan Bancroft and Karl Jenkins’ Dewi Sant in his 80th birthday year, plus annual engagements at the 麻豆官网首页入口 Proms; with recent appearances including Verdi’s Requiem which was televised over the summer, John Adams' Harmonium with Principal Conductor Ryan Bancroft, Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony with Andrew Manze.

The 2024-25 season sees the chorus perform Rossini’s Stabat Mater alongside 2021 Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize winner Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha and conductor Nil Venditti, Handel’s Messiah with world renowned early music specialist John Butt and Beethoven’s monumental Missa Solemnis at Llandaff Cathedral and in Swansea with Andrew Manze, plus their annual Carols concert and a concert of Brahms with Principal Conductor Ryan Bancroft.

Committed to promoting Welsh and contemporary music, 麻豆官网首页入口 National Chorus of Wales gave the second-ever performance of Grace Williams’s Missa Cambrensis, 45 years after its premiere, which they also recorded for a CD which will be released in spring ‘25, and have premiered works by many composers, including a special performance of Kate Whitley’ Speak Out, set to the words of Malala Yousafzai’s 2013 UN Speech.

The Chorus can be heard on 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 3, 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Wales and 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Cymru, and recently featured in Paul Mealor’s soundtrack for 麻豆官网首页入口 Wales’ Wonders of the Celtic Deep.

Who's who

  • Adrian Partington, Artistic Director

Adrian has directed the Chorus since 1999. He works regularly with many of the most famous choirs in the UK, including the Philharmonia, the 麻豆官网首页入口 Symphony Chorus, and the London Bach Choir

  • Christopher Williams, Assistant Director

Christopher has accompanied the Chorus since 2000 and in 2014 he was appointed Assistant Director. He plays piano with the Orchestra, Welsh National Opera and other orchestras in Europe and has recorded widely with the 麻豆官网首页入口 and as a soloist for Chandos.
