Didrich is the Baron’s son. In 1851 he returns from war as a young hero, and he can tell, in detail, about all the victories he has won, and all of the fellow soldiers that he has saved. But Didrich is a broken child, who was never allowed to grow up. An unloved and unruly demon inhabits him, along with a desperate yearning for love and acceptance.
