India gas leak: at least 13 dead
The leak came from the LG Polymers plant in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh state.
The government in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has threatened to launch criminal proceedings against a South Korean chemical company after a huge gas leak from its local factory. At least 13 people died and hundreds received hospital treatment after gas leaked from the LG Chem polystyrene plant in Visakhapatnam early on Thursday.
We also have the latest now on how the pandemic is affecting the US economy - a further 3.2 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week. The number of new claims has fallen since last week, and is down from its March peak of 6.9 million.
The lockdown in India continues but the domestic workers have been allowed to return. But this has raised some fairly fundamental questions about Indian society.
Also in the programme, controversy in Sri Lanka where the government has asked its employees to contribute their May monthly salary to help bail it out in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
