Sketches of Sound
Can the sound and movement of live music be captured on paper? Artist John Dewe Mathews has managed to catch the atmosphere of the Radio 3 Awards for World Music on 28 January. Click on the artists' names below to see his colourful sketches.
John Dewe Mathews trained as an architect. After working as a portrait photographer in the early 1970's, culminating in a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in 1974, he took up painting. He is a self-taught artist who has been described as 'matching quickness of apprehension with spontaneity of gesture'. He has exhibited extensively in Europe and the USA.
