School Buildings
Building Schools for the Future (BSF), the government's extensive school rebuilding scheme, was launched two years ago as the largest investment project in schools since Victorian times. With a budget of 拢45bn over fifteen years, the stated aim of BSF is to rebuild or renew every secondary school in England over a 10-15 year period, in order to provide "flexible, inclusive, attractive learning environments that teachers want to teach in and pupils want to learn in." However, amid fears that money is being wasted on bad designs and undue processual complications, today sees the launch of the British Council for School Environments (BCSE). The BCSE will act as a forum for exchange, dialogue and advocacy, aiming to ensure that communities get the best out of this massive programme. Talking to Libby today is Peter Clegg, senior partner at Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects , who has 25 years experience as an architect, and Allan Jarvis, Deputy Head from Buttershaw School in Bradford .听
Higher Education Use of Technology
A Bradford microbiology lecturer has replaced his traditional lectures with podcasts and the largest legal training provider - The College of Law of England and Wales - has announced that it is planning to abolish all lectures on the compulsory legal practice course and replace them with online tutorials. In light of these developments, e-learning expert Professor Stephen Heppel talks to Libby about the pros and cons of such e-learning initiatives.听

First Aid
Last year 120 schools across the UK took part in St. John Ambulance's First Aid for schools programme, which trained an estimated 36,000 children in the most commonly needed first aid skills. Melissa Viney reports from Westbury Leigh Primary School in Wiltshire, where Barbara Cooper is teaching a class of nine and ten year olds to be Young Lifesavers.听
