Bed In

When Andrew and Christine Gale decided to do something a little different for Valentines Day this year, little could they have known what an impact their romantic actions would have.

Andrew and Christine

It was the weekend of the protests against the impending war, but Christine was bedridden with a broken back and the couple were unable to join the march.

Nevertheless, they still wanted to play a part in some way. Andrew put on John Lennon's Give Peace A Chance - and then it came to him.

Andrew remembers seeing pictures of the John and Yoko Lay-In and came up with a brilliant idea for Valentines Day - a bed-in. Christine thought it was a great idea too. She had wanted to go on one of the peace marches, but with a broken back on the mend, this was a better way to protest.

It was also romantic. Christine says that this wasn't out of character for Andrew. She says he's "as romantic as a Yorkshire man can be".

The original idea was to get a photograph of themselves in bed and email it to friends through the internet. But one of their friends alerted 麻豆官网首页入口 Look North and before they knew it they were "sat naked in bed behind our duvet and sheets doing a live broadcast for the lunch time news".

Andrew describes this experience as "pretty nerve wracking". And from then on the phone never stopped ringing from other news outlets.

In total, they spent 24 hours in bed. Andrew was a little concerned about what his mum would think about this.

Happy Birthday Yoko

On Valentines Day itself they received a strange phone call from one of their local newspapers, saying they had a message from EMI from Yoko Ono. Yoko said she supported Andrew and Christine in their bed-in and they were in her prayers.

"Somehow in New York, she'd heard what was going on in Addingham". She even sent them some white lilies on Valentines Day. To return the honour, Andrew and Christine sent Yoko a photograph of themselves in bed with a sign saying "Happy Birthday Yoko".
