Comet Wild 2
Dust from Comet Wild 2 is being analysed

Inkjet Technology

The creation of circuit boards and skin sprays by an average inkjet printer may appear far-fetched, but it seems that the applications of inkjet technology may merely be limited by our imagination.

Quentin Cooper is joined by Chris Williams,听Network Director of UK Displays.听 He听is particularly interested in the printing of electronic circuits.听Quentin听also speaks to Brian Derby, Professor in Materials Science at Manchester University, who is investigating听the use of inkjet technology to create animal cell structures to replace skin.听

Stardust

Following a 7 year mission spanning 4.6 billion kilometres, a NASA probe brought back the first particles to ever be directly collected from a comet. Scientists are now hopeful that this handful of dust will reveal the secrets behind the origins of our solar system and life on earth.

Quentin Cooper is joined by Dr Mark Burchell, from the University of Kent, and Dr Matthew Genge, from Imperial College London, a leading micrometeorite expert. They discuss the difficulties of collecting and examining comet samples, as well as a few surprising results.
