It’s more than fifty years since the original Belles of St Trinian’s burst out of Ronald Searle’s cartoons and on to the silver screen. Now the gymslips and hockey sticks are back, with a new version of St Trinian’s opening at cinemas across the UK. So what is the enduring appeal of the infamous schoolgirls? And what do they have to say to a modern day audience? Jane is joined by film critic Carol Allen, who’s had a sneak preview of the new film, Melanie Williams from the University of Hull and Damaris Hayman, who was one of the ‘terrible girls’ in the first St Trinian’s.
