World premiere of "The Woman Hater"

Fanny Burney is best known as a novelist and diarist whose wit was a precursor to Jane Austen and William Thackeray. She is less prominent as a playwright. Her play ‘The Woman Hater’, written in 1802, is to have its World Premiere at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond. It tells the story of Sir Roderick who, jilted on the verge of marriage, spurns all contact with women. He comes to detest the 'fairer sex'. Jenni will be joined by Kate Chisholm, Fanny Burney's biographer and Katherine Newey, Professor of Drama at the University of Birmingham to discuss Fanny Burney’s life and her work as a playwright.

"The Woman Hater" directed by Sam Walter’s is on at the Orange Tree Theatre, in Richmond Surrey from 19 December – 2 February 2008
