The Asian women enjoying unprecedented global influence

When Forbes business magazine published itsÌý2007 list of the world’s 100 most powerful women, itÌýplaced Asians in four of the top six positions. Wu Yi, the vice-premier of China andÌýHo Ching, chief executive of Singapore’s state-owned investment company Temasek, wereÌýboth ranked higherÌýthan the US secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice. So what is behind the increasing influence ofÌýthis small group of Asian women? And,Ìýwhat doesÌýit say about the position of womenÌýat large,Ìýin Asia and the Far East?

RitulaÌýtalks to Dr Yiyi Lu, associate fellow at the international affairs think tank Chatham House, and Dr Shailaja Fennell, lecturer in development studies at the University of Cambridge.
