Work
Time Off Work to Care 23听Jan 2008
Arranging flexible working to look after elderly relatives.

Where once parents had to fight for the right to take time off work to care for their children, increasing numbers of people now find themselves having to negotiate combining work with caring for their elderly parents or relatives. But how open are employers to staff arranging work around their adult caring responsibilities? Last year carers were granted the same rights to ask for flexible working as parents of young children, but a recent study argues that this does not go far enough, and does not take account of the often unpredictable nature of providing care for adults. Jenni discusses the issues with the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Minister for Women and Equality, Harriet Harman, Patricia Peter from the Institute of Directors, and Carey Oppenheim from the Institute for Public Policy Research
