Himalayan adventure remembered 21 April 2008
Antonia Deacock, Anne Davies and Eve Sims
The first European women to enter Zanskar

Fifty years ago three young British housewives went in search of adventure, driving eight thousand miles to India. Unlike every other traveller before them they managed to persuade Prime Minister Nehru to personally grant them permission to enter the remote Tibetan Buddhist Kingdom of Zanskar in the North West Himalaya, one of the last unexplored regions of the map. Fifty years after she appeared on Woman鈥檚 Hour to celebrate this trip one of the explorers, Eve Sims, reflects on the significance of her journey. She is joined by photographer and filmmaker Martin Salter who has put together a film about their experiences.
