Twenty years ago today the funeral of nine young women took place at Montreal’s main Cathedral. Along with five others, they were killed in what became known as the ‘The Montreal Massacre’. A gunman walked into a college, separated groups along gender lines and then shot the women. In all, 14 were killed. The murderer, Marc Lepine said he ‘hated feminists’. The murders shattered Canada; they sparked uncomfortable questions - were the shootings the act of one crazed individual, or did they represent something deeper and more unsettling?ÌýJenni is joined by Professor Julianne Pidduck from the Department of Communication atÌýMontreal University, who was in Montrreal as the events of December 1989 unfolded and Caroline Van Vlaardingen, Journalist at CTV who covered the massacre.
