What's being done to tackle the flourishing trade in West Africa?
The West African Republic of Benin briefly grabbed headlines in 2003 when a ship was discovered trafficking children to work as labourers and domestic servants in Gabon. The investigations that followed revealed a flourishing trade, involving an estimated 200,000 West and Central African children a year. Although the Benin government passedÌýits first anti-trafficking law last year, UNICEFÌýremains concerned about the scale ofÌýchild trafficking in Benin.Ìý
