Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy 12 Mar 2008
Filmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy
The filmmaker on the plight of the 4 million exiled Iraqis.

At 16, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was doing undercover stories on the sale of passports to illegal immigrants in her native Pakistan. Her work landed her in trouble and her name, linked with profanities, was spray-painted around Karachi. She made her first film while at university in America and has since earned a reputation as a passionate documentary maker, winning many prizes for her films. Her subjects include the lives of Afghan women after the U.S. invasion, and the legacy of Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe. Her latest film examines the plight of the two million Iraqis driven into exile in Syria and Jordan by the war. She joins Jane to talk about why the displacement and marginalisation of certain sections of the community is a recurring theme in her work.

Dispatches: Iraq's Lost Generation will be shown on Channel 4 on Sun 16 Mar at 7pm
