One in a hundred babies are born with heart problems.
When a woman is pregnant the baby's heart is examined at the four month scan, but while almost all spinal and kidney problems are picked up at this point, only 23% of serious heart problems are detected.
The charity Echo says it needn't be like that and is campaigning for better scanning.
