Ìý The Marriage of Figaro Tuesday 6 November 2001 Ìý
Jane Glover
The collaboration between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte was possibly one of the most successful operatic partnerships ever.

In 1786, their opera The Marriage of Figaro (or Le Nozze di Figaro), based on the banned play by Beaumarchais, shocked it's aristocratic audience with it's tale of servants using all their wiles to bring about the downfall and humiliation of their master.
This week the English National Opera stages a new production conducted by Jane Glover.
She joins Jenni to talk about the new production (performed in English using the translation by Jeremy Sams) and the cultural and artistic background in which it was set.
The ENO production of The Marriage of Figaro begins on 8 November 2001 at 7pm at the London Coliseum.
