Abuse Excuse Wednesday 1 October 2003
Last week, Jane Andrews, the former aide to the Duchess of York, lost her appeal against her conviction for murdering her lover.

Her defence had hinged on claims that she had been sexually abused as a child and was suffering from diminshed responsibility when she killed him. The judges rejected the evidence but interesting questions remain.
How much do events in our childhood shape our adult selves? Lee Moore from the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers joins Jenni to discuss to what extent an abusive childhood can explain or even excuse violent behaviour later in life.
