We can all name an album that affected us in some way and for Amy Macdonald it was ‘The Man Who’ by Travis. It was after listening to it that she started writing songs and began learning to play her father’s old guitar without any help or tuition from anyone. Amy was active in promoting herself, sending off many demos to music companies, managers and talent scouts whose details she found on the back of music magazines and eventually was successful in securing a contract with Vertigo Records. Her first album ‘This Is The Life’ has sold thousands and after initially reaching number 2 in the charts it recently rose back up to the top spot, a rare occurrence indeed! It was in March last year that we first heard her when she played in Stornoway and recorded a session for us for radio and since then she has gone from strength to strength, playing at major festivals like T In The Park and Glastonbury, supporting acts such as Paul Weller, Elton John and Travis and achieving platinum status with her debut album!
