Art

Just as Scotland was changing in the 1960s, so was art.

Some artists were inspired by American culture, comics and collage and created Pop Art. Others were interested in Abstract art - more about ideas and thoughts rather than what something actually looks like. Some people wanted to make brightly coloured sculptures and some people wanted to perform art.

Scotland had some very interesting artists working at this time -

Children in the Street by Joan Eardley
Children in the Street by Joan Eardley
Joan Eardley lived in Scotland most of her life. She often painted pictures of children from Glasgow and the wild seas of Scotland. She died in 1963 when she was just 42.

Eduardo Paolozzi

Eduardo Paolozzi was not only a painter but a sculptor too. Many people feel he invented Pop Art at the end of the forties- years before it became popular. He died in 2005.

John Bellany's work
