Greetings - I have just registered with Island blogging.

From now on I hope to be meeting and sharing with other bloggers.Unfortunately I am a late starter but I hope that there is still much to draw on from the deep well of life's happenings.I have much to learn about this new art of blogging and I am ever so keen to get the hang of it.

What I have got to offer: stories about island life, poetry (both, gaelic and english)And I would hope some articles written in the old language for its remaining supporters in blogging.

I look forward to meeting you other Island Bloggers very soon.

ISLAND WANDERER.

Life on the croft from the cradle,......blog.

Over three score years ago, Iwas born into acrofting community, the only child of a crofting family. I have spent practically my entire life involved in working on the land.

I remember as a child how Isuddenly became aware of my surroundings, asI hadn't till then. One day, probably in the Spring, standing at the door, on a cold dry day, I observed the aspect before me as never before. The rocks nearby seemed to leap at me as I had never experienced till then, they looked huge, ragged and rugged and so very grey, I expected them to move at any moment, asI wondered if they were indeed somewhat alive.

I noticed even with childish eyes that rocks were an integral part of the land scape as a whole even, of the daily life of my people,-buildings, dykes etc.

I have been fascinated with this aspect of my world ever since!

Life on the croft from the cradlle,...... blog. (2)

I could never but look closely at rock formations, and be aware how mankind has been obsessed with stone: cup markings in rocks, stone circles and standing stones. My childish attractions to these basic ingrediants of the earths composition were not just peculiar to me.

I, at this time, become aware of the world I was now ready to sample with my childish desire and to obvserve and become acquainted with all that surrounded me.

When I evtually ventured past the door of the house the revelations were immense, as the crofting way of life and all it'aspects were now my adventure. (Island Wanderer)

More to follow.
