Working Progress update

Hi Peeps,

Thought I would update you of our progress so far.

The 3 foot field now look crudely like a lawn? well it will when the colour comes back after severe strimming.

On the first Monday I layed the carpets in the master bedroom and our Sons room, including the top landing so my wife Sarah can set up her temporary office.

Then I completed to finish off the lobby wall and make a double fitted waldrobe, still needs decoration though....Oh I have included some pics of our temp kitchen come bathroom? Sarahs doing well on our 11th day maybe if I'm lucky she will not want a fitted kitchen?

Today I have just completed the plumbing and fowl waste to the new shower room, its such a luxury to flush the toilet instead of a bucket, oh those little things you miss.

Next task is to install the hydro shower?......that looks fun.

I have ordered the windows and door so they shoulds be installed in the next few weeks, and the kids are pleased as we got the satellite installed today so maybe we will get some peace now.

The lounge currently is the storage holding area, this will be the next project to complete if my back holds out :0

Oh and what a fantastic week of weather last week, we went to Ness for a family walk........next time with a picnic not forgetting Harris our dog he is never in the house now he loves it outside more.

Saturaday 7th July, Just added new picture of Hydro shower now we have HOT water :) and here are a couple of photos of the shower room tiled.

see you soon.

Oh Fred, you certainly aren't letting the grass grow under your feet in any sense! You're doing wonderfully well, what progress you've made already! I know it must seem as if normal life can never happen again, but soon you will be enjoying the fruits of your hard work. Best wishes to you and your family (and what an appropriate name your dog has!).

Jill from EK

Hi Fred, hang in there old pal. Good luck. I did not realize tornadoes hit Lewis that regularly.

mjc from NM,USA

It's going to be stunning when it's all finished. There's a female parental unit here wondering how you manage to produce meals and clean clothes in such trying circumstances and the word 'caravan' has been heard...('saint' is another one, as in patience of a')

Flying Cat from an admiring glance

Impressive! I'm just slightly concerned about the hygiene issues with having a combined temporary kitchen cum bathroom. I hope you all have cast iron stomachs. DIY takes time in our house - we've had half a new kitchen in for 3 weeks now; the rest of it's in the dining/living room. Still - that's better than the garage door which still hasn't been bought and fitted after 13 years! Didn't realise plywood could last this long ;-))

Rachondarox from Lancashire

I'm glad that you are installed in your new home. we have just completed 2 new rooms in our renovation after 22 months the roofs coming off next week so know what mayhem looks like :)

Barebraes from Shapinsay

LOL our hygiene was ok Rachondarox, now that the shower room is complete with waste & plumbing we can rip that thing out, I will be glad to see the back of this bathroom, just waiting for the tiles to finish off the room and oh a couple of lights, so next will be the lounge. I have also installed a new fuse board today as the other one was re 1985, the wiring here is to die for........Good luck with your renovations to. Flying Cat no its ok Sarah has her new tumble dryer on, washing machine, NOT the dishwasher yet but are all free standing, I suppose it gives her a little more working area.......but she might have a different view on this.

Fred from Point

Hmm - never seen a hydro shower before. What on earth is the white bit for suspended above the 'plug' hole? Is it a chair for getting strapped to before enduring the water torture from all angles?

Rachondarox from Lancashire bathroom with comfortable bath

See, SEE!!! Someone on the islands has a tumble dryer. Not just Americans. Not so long ago on Island Blogging I was made to feel as decadent as Romans feasting on flamingo tongs for mentioning possession of a tumble dryer. Fred old boy, you make me feel better.

mjc from NM,USA

Mjc, here in Scotland, from the Borders to the northernmost and westernmost islands, a tumble dryer is not a decadent sign of the crumbling of civilization but a dire necessity without which we would be submerged under piles of wet washing...

Jill from EK

Yes it does look like a contraption for torture Rachondarox. Where do you put the rubber duck tho ?

Barebraes from Sjhapinsay

Thank you Jill.

mjc from NM,USA

EXCUSE ME!!! I live in Orkney. We do not have a tumble dryer. We have an auld pulley.....also in Shetlandic.....erm...maybe not!

Flying Cat from undecadently yours

Aye, I thought so. There is a reason for all those clothes lines. Without them, we would not have Annie B.'s fashion display. FC rumbles in Orkney, but no dry tumbling. Tumblers with wet stuff in them are alright though, so I am told.

mjc from NM,USA

Barebraes - I dread to think where the rubber duck might go :o

Rachondarow from Lancs

Rachondarox, yes it is a seat, due to my little one used to take baths, she now enjoys sitting in the cubical, or maybe its for my aching back? But if you stand up then turn the hydro shower on and you face is wet the pressure pushes you to the glass and your lips stick to the glass....LOL

Fred from You Do me Laugh

As I suspected - my bath is a much more relaxing (and safe) option! Anyway - the water pressure's unpredictable in our farm house - we get our water after the inlaws, the cows, the sheep, the milking parlour, the .......; and there's not enough head anyway between the tank up the hill and our bathroom upstairs in the house!

Rachondarox from Lancs

Fred Good to see you have lost none of your drive,I am impressed with the progress (if you ever need a job Ha Ha) but seriously it was a pleasure working with you mate & i wish you and your family all the very best. May the hydro shower, shower you with health & good fortune, take care all the very best

MARK INGLEDEW from SIF Rainham

Glad you are all in one piece and getting sorted. Wow what a shower - awsome facility!!!!!! Off to Ireland for two weeks so will be in touch when we gat back.

andrew from T&E

Glad to note that your old co-workers still care about you, and think highly of you. Should give a warm glow to your gills. # Take good care of yourself, Fred (and missus): patience, remember. Did you bring your thin, flat screen tv with you, or are you planning on doing without? As soon as the Sony Bravia 32 in. gets to 250 dollars (it's now closer to 1k), I'll grab myself one. Our 15 year old 22 in. tv (it's color tv, usually) can make do for another 5, I hope. As you can tell, I am not in a hurry.

mjc from NM

Hey fred(and family) sorry to have not welcomed you before now, i've not been on line for a few weeks. Anyway welcome and enjoy your new slower life up here, i think it's worth it anyway. I to am amazed to see your progress, i've hd a new bathroom suite sitting in the barn for about a year now lol. Enjoy the lovely weather we've been getting, it is a rare treat :-)

tanith from point

Mark, thanks for your kind comments and please keep in touch...MJC, well I bough my 37" flat screen with me, I sold my 43" before we left to the isle otherwise it would dominate the lounge, well apart from the flooring in the bathroom I have finished the tiling now, so the next project is creating our lounge. Have a great weekend all speak soon, we are off the the Agricultural show tomorrow at Aird school, 1/2 a mile down the road.

Fred from Rest day today

What animals did you get at the ag. show to keep missus and yourself company? What manner of fowl or ruminant?

mjc from NM,USA

Tanith, thank you for your welcome, its nice to know we are neigbours now, dont forget the kettles on? We were looking for you at the Point show on Saturday LOL
