Still Working

Well, while we await the kitchen, I thought its time to complete the lounge oak floor its been laid a few months now and has settled well, so on Saturday I sanded the complete area. On Monday (today) the first coat will go on while the kids are at school.

Update on the roof? still NO contractors showed maybe this year they will turn up. Who knows?

Next room to complete will be my daughter Holly, I have had strict instructions from her to paint one wall purple with a big heart shape design in pink....then little stars around it (that could be challenging) LOL

It's like watching paint dry

Donald from Ness

Flooring looks fabulous, Fred, and I have always admired that nice green colour you have on the walls. Hearts and stars should be no problem for you! Could you make stencils for the stars? Then you could spray-paint them on.

Jill from EK

Looks VERY good, Fred. You really are versatile: I am very impressed. Maybe I'll drop by with wife and daughter to say hello sometime. Idly checked the airlines last week (to see what else we could do which would be exciting when we fly over in July, apart from sitting on hard benches during daughter's graduation), but noted that, unfortunately, the Logainair Pass is no longer in existence.

I would say, without in any way meaning to cast a shadow on such an optimistic spirit, that roofing contractors turning up in what's left of 2007 is, in Island Time, increasingly unlikely...and then there are the gales if you'll pardon the pun... A cat or two could have great fun skidding about on such a nice shiny surface. Our claws do make such pretty heiroglyphs!

FC&Marmers from skiting aboot

Jill, thats a good idea, I will get some card for spreying thanks for that. mjc it would be great to see you if you ever come over..............FC Dont worry the floor was wet when I took the photo, it will try in a matt finish so no slipping in here.

Fred from Point

Beautiful floor. Is it Norwegian ash?

Dag from Norway

Have you seen Island Thread in the neighborhood, Fred? She may be on travel, at exhibitions and such.,,,

mjc from NM,USA

Just tthought that I would disclose I just finished using your name in vain, Fredmeboy, on Diamonddog's blog. After such a public write-up, Fred, your Chinese cooking has better be awfully good!!

mjc from NM,USA

One of the best things for making stencils is Lakeland's fleximats. They come in packs of five, make very durable, cleanable, re-usable stencils, and are very cheap.

Flying Cat from stencilling like mad

Dag......No not ash, but Red Oak.

Fred from Like watching paint dry?

has anyone else noticed that if you turn the floor picture upside down, it looks very like the sunset just below it in the next blog...have I got too much time on my hands?

scallowawife from upside down...

Forget about the Lakeland fleximats -spend your money on their licorice in dark chocolate.

Donald from With a black tongue

So tamped down earth not good enough eh. Incomers with their smart flooring ideas. Next they'll be wanting water piped from the well and won't be doing their washing in the river. When that happpens society will crumble and the forces of Mammon wil....

Rev ED McCreadie from The Ongoing Succeeding Church Brue

My female parental unit is open-mouthed in admiration at your flexibility, scallowawife! And thanks for making it matt, Fred, it means I can drop by for a kitty treat without fear of hip displacement...

Flying Cat from He showed me his room, isn't it good, Norwegian...

Hi Fred, now I know where Peter Evans disappeared to! He didn't go to Oz after all.

Bill from SIF

Has the bird flown FC? Fred I'll come visit you once I get my new car, hopefully this week some time.

Tws from The Wood

What does one tamp down earth with? Is Donald part Chow Chow? Has the Rev ED McCreadie had a gender re-alignment? Do the ongoing succeeding elders allow this sort of ongoing? Will I ever get answers to my questions?

Flying Cat from tampenade

Hey Rev ED, thats not the way to insire new flock into your congreation? and as the old house owner poared concrete...and poorly laid to I have to do something drastic, like self leveling and new floor....Oh yes we have a well to. FC see every consideration taken on this refurbishment. Bill what are you trying to say, you cant see any joins here LOL. TWS anytime no probs. mjc cannot find these bloggers you mentioned or have I missed something?

Fred from Get to the point

On the road to perdition (though not on Sunday) in Lewis (or is it Harris?), I fear. As the rev. MCCreadie knows, there are rumors not only of running water but also of toilet paper being used in Lewis. What next? Tetley tea bags?!!

mjc from NM,USA

One tamps down the earth with a pneumatic tamper. Or, depending on the soil, you could just even the ground, and soak it down. Nothing wrong with it, so long as rain does not seep through the roof and get the floor wet.

mjc from NM,USA

mjc - what do you think they use teabags for? we use them for tea. and toilet roll is for ...well ... toilet purposes...

scallowawife from in puzzlement...

Fred, the blogger is in Trondra. Maybe his name is not quite Diamonddog [I am rather free when it comes to spelling ...], but close enough. ;You should contribute to his blog too, Fred. I would be curious to see what strange dishes you ever had.

mjc from NM,USA

mjc......do you mean the chinese dishes i have eaten if so here we go, chow main, ribs dry ones, sweet and sour, special rices, do not like the currys to runny for me, all fish dishes, all vegetable, duck, shreaded chilli beef / fish....now i need a take away?

Fred from making me hungry

Diamonddogblog wanted a list of STRANGE dishes, Fred. Make your own curry, Fred, and then you can make them dry rather than runny. Patak's jars of Madras curry, or vindaloo are pretty handy.

mjc from NM,USA

hey fred and sarah, that varnish realy brings the grain in the wood out nicely. I'm looking forward to visiting again and seeing how it's all changed. Sorry to hear about the roofers, it is very much the way it goes here. We've been let down loads as well, it dosn't take much to pick up a phone and say sorry can't do it, but they just leave you waiting for months on end instead of telling you so you can look elsewhere, so rude!!....('good natured' rant over lol)

tanith from point

Tanith, did u have a good break?....and how did you survive the winds yesterday.......we lost the top off the chicken coop, but no chickens they were ok new coop arrives in a day or so, still a learning curve. But the conservatory / Workshop stood up to it at the moment lol. See you soon.

Fred from Point

fred did you varnish the wod before laying it ?? my house is all wood inside and outside i don't even want to think how many planks of wood i varnished(the thought of it makes me scream) the only rooms which have no wooden floors are lounge/dining area (only 75 square metres i tiled these) but rest of house inside walls, ceilings are wood all lovingly done by me and late hubby

carol from thinking of varnishing wood

hi Carol, No this oak was raw and untreaded I laid the floor to get used to its room condition / temp ect. But being raw gets dirty quick and in the grain so its was completed for christmas, for all those bloggers who wants to pop in for a mince pie ;o) we have alot of wood here to on the upstair wood cladding, but I have painted this white as it was already painted, to much maintemance stripping back to varnish......but would look nice.

Fred from Point

No he didn't...

Flying Cat from (after careful examination of photos)

fc....your comments to (No he didn't) what does that refer too? As all the work here has been done by my own hands, and no other contractors

Fred from Point

No no no..don't confuse a poor cat. You know how comments sort of tumble over each other in ib-time, I meant no he didn't varnish it before laying it, not no he didn't DIH...

Flying Cat from in bits...now Fred's taken umbrage

LOL sorry fc, my mistake, you right it can be abit confusing at times....thanks for putting it right.

Fred from Point

Phew!
