Mountainman’s postings, and in particular Ardmore again, beautiful day, inspired Carol to send over some photos for inclusion in IB. She says MM’s snaps reminded her of the Coromandel township and peninsula in New Zealand.

Carol ... get well soon!! Anne ... I spent most of my life in the South Island of NZ [you see I am an 'islander'] and I am certain that much more than just the Coromandel closely resemble Scotland and the Isles. In Otago, where I came from, even the accent has a pronounced rolling of the rrrrr's ... very distinctive and left over from our ancestry ... Otago being settled by the Scots, often as a result of the Clearances.

Hi Carol ... Southland is at the bottom of the South Island, and Otago is the next province northwards. It has the Lakes Wakatipu [Queenstown on its shores], Wanaka and Hawea which drain into the mighty Clutha River that takes the most water out to sea in NZ. My hometown, Balclutha, is near the river mouth on the east side. Otago is very picturesque ... Dunedin is the main city. Enjoy your time in the deep south ... nowhere near the South Pole, though Aucklanders will try to convince you otherwise.
