How are you doing? I'm good, I'm buzzing, but I buzzed a bit too much last night and I think I need to chill out. That was amazing gig just now.听 It was a real high getting everyone in there to sing along with you. Yes it is... It's just strange that this is the length of the set. You go to the middle of nowhere in Austria where nobody's heard of you and you do a 55 minute set, And you come here, people are singing away, and you get 25 minutes - but I heard that's just standard. Everybody doesn't have to know every word of every song, it doesn't have to have a synchronised dance routine, you just need to stand, smile and enjoy it and move - that's what I do at most gigs because I dance like Peter Kay! So I try not to dance as much as I can! You get a real sense that people are starting to, you know, listen and the record's still top ten I believe. It's just amazing the fact that we're getting to do all these shows and you're getting to do them everywhere... Places like this where the tents are that busy and that was amazing, that's big... and you're getting to go just outside Amsterdam the day before yesterday, and then before that Austria and then I was in Tuscany for three days. In Tuscany, where I'm from, I went back there to do a show and they made me a freeman of Barga - they gave me a flag, a medallion... it's basically the keys to the city. So where are you off to next? I'm going to go home tonight and spend another night with my lovely girlfriend. We've got a big bottle of champagne and we're going to crack it open. And yeah then we've got some rehearsals tomorrow. We've booked in a couple of days' rehearsals. I had a couple of days off and I thought we'll rehearse up the new songs and introduce them into the set and we'll do it in Glasgow, so we've got some time to spend with significant others. I can get myself a nice new phone and get myself a new suitcase... I'm going to be so organised after tomorrow man! I was stood down in the pit taking pictures and you were talking all about this song Rainbow - are you ever going to release that, or is it just going to be a festival song?

It's actually a song that sort of evolved. I wrote that a wee while ago and it was all about going to Glastonbury really and just getting lost amongst the madness. Then we started to do it with the band and it's just sounding like an AC-DC song - it was great. So we'll just wait and see. Maybe it'll be on our next record. I don't try and worry about singles and records really. I'll let them get in the set and we'll see if someone comes to me from the record company and says I think it might be an idea if we release that... and you go with it really. It's all about the gigs though. Are you going to be hanging around to see anyone today? I stayed in Chelmsford last night and I had to drive through here this morning - I was knackered. But I ran into a lot of interesting folk and had some drunken conversations. Edith Bowman - she's lovely, she really is. I watched the Editors do their little set with them. The guys from Orson are really nice guys. Peaches Geldof, I spoke to her briefly... Chantelle and Preston... some guys from the band Rushmore - some good wee musicians. And I went to see Beck and Radiohead yesterday. The day before in Amsterdam DJ Shadow was on. I've seen some good bands over the last three days. But I will hold my hands up and say maybe yesterday I peaked too soon... but I carried on! Everyone was singing along. It actually hit you. When you stopped singing the wave of people singing actually hits you when it comes up... particularly on Last Request. I just love that. I just love hearing a 30 second bite of you guys singing the song it's absolutely amazing. |
